Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy was developed by psychologist Dr Sue Johnson and is an approach that has been rigorously tested and has a strong evidence base to support its effectiveness in helping people to improve and strengthen their relationship.
EFCT is based on Attachment Theory and the idea that human beings are wired for connection. It works from the understanding that difficulties in relationships arise because of underlying attachment wounds and unmet needs rather and seeks to bring these to light to help couples develop a more safe, connected and secure bond with one another.
EFCT is a short-term approach which typically lasts between 8 – 20 sessions, although more complex difficulties may require up to 25 sessions.
